On this course you will develop your observational drawing skills in a supportive space. Our workshops are open to anyone who is interested in exploring life drawing through regular practice and encouragement.

Detailed Description

Each week we will be working with a nude life model, these may change week to week and will include both male and female life models. Easels, pens, paper, and charcoal will be provided but please feel free to bring your own materials as well.

To uphold safeguarding policy, no photographs of the life model, tutor or fellow students are permitted to be taken during the class. After the class has finished, students may photograph their own work. Please ask permission before photographing a fellow student's work. Please also keep mobile phones switched off or in silent mode during the class. You may step out of the classroom to make a phone call if necessary.

You are also kindly requested to arrive on time for the class to avoid disruption to fellow students and to the model, who is sitting for timed poses.Thank you very much for your understanding and co-operation with our safeguarding measures. 

 

This Workshop will take place on Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30pm in St Margaret Chapel, York St John University, Lord Mayor's Walk Campus, York.

About the facilitator

Amanda Walker trained at The Slade School of Fine Art, University College London, gaining BA Hons and MA Hons degrees. Here, she found a love of figurative drawing and painting, tutored by Jo Volley and Euan Uglow. She spent a year studying anatomical drawing in a unique collaboration between University College Hospital, The Royal College of Surgeons and The Slade which won her the Henry Tonks Prize for Drawing. Amanda has a broad knowledge of techniques across drawing and painting. Her work has also encompassed film, photography and dance. In teaching, this enables her to guide students of any level to learn and develop their processes within a wide scope of materials and ideas. Amanda is also a qualified yoga teacher and has specific interest in links between creativity and mindfulness. She also holds an MA Hons in Art History from The University of St Andrews and integrates her practice and teaching with inspiration and context from past and contemporary artists. Amanda has 20 years teaching experience in a variety of settings across all age groups including school and gallery workshops, Slade Summer School, City Literary Institute, private tuition and she has devised and facilitated numerous courses and outreach projects.

We appreciate that there may be occasions where you are unable to attend a CPD course and need to cancel your booking, and we aim to make the process as straight forward as possible. To cancel your place on a CPD course, workshop or other CPD event which requires payment, notice of cancellation must be given ASAP by email to business@yorksj.ac.uk.

You may be able to receive a refund or we may be able to transfer your booking to another day depending on when you inform us of the cancellation:

• If you cancel more than 24 hours prior to the start of the course you will receive a full refund.
• If you cancel less than 24 hours before the event you will not be entitled to a refund but we will aim to transfer your booking to the next available workshop.

If you are unable to attend but wish to transfer the booking to someone else, you can do this up to the day before the course starts without any further cost by contacting us via email.

In some circumstances we may need to take the decision to cancel a CPD course, workshop or event. In this case all delegates will be offered a full refund, and if appropriate, be offered priority booking on any rescheduled course in the future. It may also be possible to transfer a booking to another CPD course, if appropriate.
