Circuit training is a high-energy, fast-paced class in which you rotate through various exercise stations, performing each exercise as many times as you can in a set amount of time. Short breaks allow you to catch your breath before continuing. Working at your own pace, with an emphasis on aerobic and strength conditioning, this class welcomes all fitness levels!

About Karen:
Karen is a 32-year-old Norwegian student studying Sport & Exercise Science, and is a Level 2 British Weight Lifting coach. She’s passionate about helping other people stay happy and healthy.

A Pilates class suitable for all abilities.  Pilates focuses on strengthening the body, particularly the core.  It can help you to improve posture, strength, flexibility and balance.  It can also help you to develop or improve your mind-body connection, enabling you to be more aware of aspects such as your posture and muscle activation.

Retro Aerobics is what it says on the tin. Going back to all those aerobic moves everyone knows and loves, who doesn’t love a grape vine or a leg curl.  Songs from the 70s all the way up to modern pop. It’s an all levels/all abilities class where you can feel safe and comfortable on the fitness journey you want to take. No one is here to judge; we are just here to have fun - William.

Briony’s personal Yoga practice spans over 15 years. She has found the feelings of calm and presence that Yoga brings, has helped navigate her through many challenging periods in her life. Her passion for sharing the physical and mental wellbeing benefits of yoga with adults of all ages and abilities, shines through in her teaching.

Having trained in Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga, Briony loves to explore postures and breathing techniques to help students connect deeply with themselves, find a place of stillness, and improve their own health and wellbeing,

Yoga for Bone and Joint Health - 6 week programme

Yoga for bone and joint health is suitable for people who have never done yoga before to those who practice regularly. The classes will focus on poses that aim to help you improve joint stability and strength, range of movement, bone density and your balance. Yoga has the potential to reduce physical symptoms caused by a range of musculoskeletal issues and improve mental and physical wellbeing.

Yoga can also help you to feel more connected to your body, assisting with developing proprioception (a greater sense of bodily movement, force and posture), which can reduce the risk of trips and falls.

These classes are suitable for all fitness and mobility levels, with variations given for each pose allowing you to find what is comfortable for you. If you find transitioning between standing and sitting on the floor difficult, for whatever reason, then you can participate whilst seated in a chair. If you have a medical condition that may impact on your safety or participation, we would be grateful if you could let us know about this when booking.

The classes will take place in the Sports Hall, which is located in the Foss Building at York St John University (YO31 7EX), https://www.yorksj.ac.uk/map/  All yoga equipment will be provided (such as mats, blocks, straps and chairs, if needed) or you are welcome to bring your own. We would recommend bringing a drink of water and a jumper and socks for the relaxation aspect at the end of the class. No specific clothing is necessary, but you may find it helpful to wear clothes that allow for easy movement and that tapers/finishes at the ankle (or higher). Changing rooms and toilets are located next to the Sports Hall.

One Month Membership for the YSJActive Gym, York St John University.
**For the month of December, the Gym Membership will be £10, as we will be closed from the 22nd December, and will reopen on the 3rd January. This is due to the University being closed.**

If you need to purchase multiple memberships please do these as individual purchases so we have the correct information for each individual.

MAXIMUM CAPACITY IS CURRENTLY LIMITED TO 15 PEOPLE AT A TIME WHICH MAY RESULT IN A 'ONE IN ONE OUT' SCENARIO DURING BUSY PERIODS.

For insurance reasons, members must be 18 years or over to use the facilities.

Please bring £1 for the lockers, as coats and bags cannot be taken into the Fitness Suite. Changing rooms and showers are available.
