Detailed Description

This Health Coaching course will help you to develop your health coaching skills. Health Coaching is a way of communicating with patients to support them with the knowledge, skills and confidence to become active participants in managing their own health. 

Who is this course for? - Allied Health Professionals with a basic knowledge and understanding of using a health coaching approach within a clinical setting. 
What will I learn? - To further develop health coaching skills within complex clinical interactions. 
How will I learn?  - Through a mixture of self-selected workshops and peer-observed health coaching in real-life simulated clinical scenarios

 

Tutor Biographies

Christopher Newbery - Chris is a Lecturer in Physiotherapy at York St John University, teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Chris has integrated simulation communication teaching within the Physiotherapy courses and is keen to explore its impact on developing complex communication skills in safe learning environments. With a focus on leadership and communication, Chris examines how interactions shape clinical relationships and support students in becoming reflective, compassionate practitioners. 

Caroline Brown - Caroline is currently working as an Allied Health Professional (AHP) Clinical Fellow in Health Coaching alongside her Extended Scope Practitioner Role in Spasticity Management at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Following completion of a master’s module in Health Coaching and Behavioural Change 5 years ago Caroline has led a project to support AHPs to integrate a Health Coaching approach within their practice, and now lectures on a postgraduate programme. She is very passionate about the benefits of using this approach and continues to strive to ensure this learning is shared with other members of the multidisciplinary teams to maximise effectiveness.

Cancellation by delegates

We appreciate that there may be occasions where you are unable to attend a CPD course and need to cancel your booking, and we aim to make the process as straight forward as possible. To cancel your place on a CPD course, workshop or other CPD event which requires payment, notice of cancellation must be given ASAP by email to business@yorksj.ac.uk. If your course fee is paid by your organisation, then please be aware that you will need to inform your manager directly.

If you are a fee payer, you may be able to receive a refund depending on when you inform us of the cancellation:

  • If you cancel more than 14 days prior to the start of the course you will receive a full refund.
  • If you cancel between 7-14 days prior to the start of the course you will receive a 50% refund.
  • If you cancel less than 7 days before the event you will not be entitled to a refund.

If you are unable to attend but wish to transfer the booking to someone else, you can do this up to the day before the course starts without any further cost by contacting us via email.

Cancellation by York St John University 

In some circumstances we may need to take the decision to cancel a CPD course, workshop or event. In this case all delegates will be offered a full refund, and if appropriate, be offered priority booking on any rescheduled course in the future. It may also be possible to transfer a booking to another CPD course, if appropriate.
